Demi Lovato, performing at this week's Democratic National Convention, spoke about living with mental illness. Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Demi has said, "Four out of ten people with mental illness get help." This fact is motivating her to be an outspoken mental health advocate.
Demi is speaking out about her mental illness. And I'm encouraging those of us who are supportive family members to speak out about our experiences also. Mental illness impacts entire families. In trying to help our loved ones, we need help ourselves.
Right now, I'm waiting for one of you to submit the first story to this blog. I know once your stories start coming, we'll find strength and power in our collective anecdotes, comments, and reflections. Go to the Support page on this site and write your story in the box provided.
Thank you, Demi Lovato, for your courage and example.
Hope you're having a good week.
Dede
